West Bridgewater Continues Liquor Hearing for Restaurant Facing Six Egregious Violations

WEST BRIDGEWATER — January 8, 2025 — West Bridgewater Select Board continues liquor hearing for restaurant after police cite at least six egregious violations. The board voted unanimously to continue a public hearing for Shayzel Restaurant and Lounge, 320 West Center Street, to January 22 at 6:45 p.m. after Police Sergeant Russell Reagan, the town's liquor licensing agent, described three separate incidents between December 1 and December 14, 2024, involving after-hours alcohol service, possession of hard liquor beyond the establishment's beer-and-wine-only license, a $10 cover charge, advertised happy hours, and patrons bringing their own alcohol. Undercover officers were served beer past 1 a.m. on December 14 and found cocktail menus advertising prohibited spirits. Co-owner Nadia Burnett acknowledged the December 1 birthday-party gathering was a mistake, saying "we're learning the hard way." Board member Marcy Kenyon said none of the required compliance postings were visible at the establishment on the morning of January 8, two weeks after police directed the owners to display them. Reagan will conduct a re-inspection and submit a formal report tallying suspension days before the January 22 hearing, when the board will render a final decision on the beer-and-wine license; the owners' entertainment license application was also tabled to the same date.
