Select Board Votes 2-1 to Install Four-Way Stop at North Elm and Crescent Street

WEST BRIDGEWATER — June 3, 2026 — West Bridgewater Select Board votes 2-1 to convert the North Elm Street and Crescent Street intersection into a four-way stop. The vote came at the close of a packed public hearing Wednesday at which neighbors described decades of severe crashes, horn-blowing beginning at 5:30 a.m., and vehicles mounting sidewalks to bypass stopped traffic. Town Administrator David told the board that police data showed 33 accidents at the site since 2022, and while crash frequency ranks fourth or fifth among town intersections, severity is worse than at busier locations because of vehicle speeds. Chair Mike Lee and member Brian voted yes; member Jeff Perez dissented, saying he prefers to act on hard traffic-count data and would not consider a 90-day delay "catastrophic." The board also voted unanimously to award a short-term municipal borrowing of $1.8 million — $800,000 for a new fire engine and $1 million for the water department's PFAS project — to Unibank for Savings at 3.65 percent interest, and ratified employment contracts for incoming Council on Aging Director Wendy Adams, Health Agent Robert Casper, Principal Assessor Daniela Nielsen, and Water Department Office Manager Carrie Buckley.
