Selectmen Approve DPW-Water Department Merger

Select Board · Meeting of August 19, 2026

West Bridgewater's Board of Selectmen approved a plan merging leadership of the DPW and Water Department under current DPW Director Phil McNulty, effective September 1, after the town's water commissioners endorsed it 3-0 earlier in the week. The board also approved $443,246 in year-end budget transfers covering snow and ice, a $611 rent control board overage, and street lighting costs. On a proposed child care center at 355 West Center Street, members voiced concern the site's 32 parking spaces, seven short of the 39 required, would cause roadway queuing on Route 106 and Prospect Street; one selectman said "I think that's going to be problematic a couple of times a day at peak traffic days." The board asked the Zoning Board of Appeals to require a traffic study and to void the permit if queuing occurs.

Selectmen also entered closed-door sessions on DPW superintendent contract talks and on litigation in Cave v. Town of West Bridgewater.
