Planning Board Unanimously Approves New Water Treatment Plant at Sears Street

WEST BRIDGEWATER — July 17, 2025 — West Bridgewater Planning Board clears 1.8-million-gallon-per-day water treatment plant and two United Drive warehouse permits. The board voted 4-0 Thursday on a special permit for the West Bridgewater Water Department to build a new 9,970-square-foot iron and manganese treatment facility at 7 Sears Street, consolidating three existing pump stations into one plant funded by a State Revolving Fund loan with principal forgiveness. Engineers James Hoyt and Caitlin Slowick of Tata and Howard Incorporated told the board the plant was designed to a more stringent stormwater standard than state guidelines require, and that clearing would be limited to 0.4 acres to satisfy environmental review tied to a nearby Brockton environmental justice community. The board also closed public hearings on modified site plans for warehouse properties at 38 and 40 United Drive, owned by Ajax United Drive LLC, with 162 and 223 parking spaces respectively, subject to 17 conditions each governing hazardous materials, annual inspections, and roadway restoration on United Drive within six months of project completion.
