Conservation Commission Approves Septic Upgrade, Accepts Scotland Street Land Donation

WEST BRIDGEWATER -- March 18, 2025, West Bridgewater's Conservation Commission approved a septic system upgrade at a heavily wetland-constrained South Main Street property and accepted a small land donation at its March 18 meeting. Peter Lyons of Collins Civil Engineering Group presented plans for 400 South Main Street, where the entire lot sits within the 50-foot buffer to a bordering vegetated wetland and within the 100-foot riverfront area; the commission issued a standard order of conditions and waivers to work in both the buffer and the riverfront. The advanced pretreatment system reduced the required leaching area by more than 40 percent compared to a conventional Title 5 design, from roughly 2,200 square feet to just over half that. The commission also voted to accept a donated 0.11-acre parcel at Zero Scotland Street, purchased by a developer at auction for $1,000 and deemed unbuildable due to wetland constraints, with the developer covering all recording and deed costs. A three-year extension was granted on an existing order of conditions at 63 East Center Street, expiring in roughly three months, with work expected this spring.
